    Post-Installation Verification

    1. Launch the game – you should see the intro video (Vault-Tec animation).
    2. Main Menu loads – the title screen with "Fallout 4" and a spinning camera should appear.
    3. Check settings – go to Options > Display and ensure resolution matches your monitor (or TV).
    4. Start a new game – the character creation / pre-war sequence should begin without crashes.
    5. Save manually – press Escape (PC) or Start (console) to save, confirm the save slots are accessible.
    6. Check for mods (optional) – if you intend to mod, verify the in-game mod menu (Main Menu > Mods) loads and connects to Bethesda.net.

If all steps pass, installation was successful. If you encounter issues, refer to the Common Errors section above.

    Additional Tips

  • PC performance: Use the `iNumHWThreads` tweak in `Fallout4Prefs.ini` if you have a multi-core CPU (set to number of physical cores minus 1).

  • Console mods: Mods disable achievements. You can use mods freely but be aware of this limitation.

  • SSD recommended – Seriously, the difference in loading times (especially in and out of buildings) is night and day.

  • Back up saves – Regularly copy your save files from `%USERPROFILE%\Documents\My Games\Fallout4\Saves` on PC, or use cloud saves on consoles.
