League of Legends Download & Installation Guide
Platform Availability
League of Legends (the original MOBA) is available only on PC (Windows and macOS). It is not on PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, or mobile. For mobile, there is a separate title League of Legends: Wild Rift, which is covered in its own guide. Riot Games does not distribute LoL via Steam or Epic Games Store; the only official source is the Riot Client.

Story Overview
The world of Runeterra is a realm of magic, conflict, and ancient powers. The core narrative revolves around the ongoing struggle between the city-states and factions that vie for control over the planet's mystical energy. A key catalyst is the discovery of hextech (magitech) and the resurgence of the Void—a dimension of ravenous, otherworldly creatures. Players take on the role of "Summoners" (a concept largely phased out in lore) who command powerful champions in the Fields of Justice (the Rift) to settle disputes. More recent lore expansions (e.g., through the Ruination event and Arcane animated series) have deepened character backstories and the overarching conflict between order and chaos.
Setting
- Demacia: A militaristic kingdom that shuns magic.
- Noxus: An expansionist empire that values strength.
- Piltover & Zaun: Twin cities of progress (hextech) and decadence (chemical corruption).
- Ionia: A magical land recovering from war.
- Shadow Isles: A cursed, undead-infested archipelago.
- Freljord: A frozen wilderness where primal gods walk.
- Shurima: A desert empire resurrected from ruin.
- Bilgewater: A pirate port of monsters and treasure hunters.
- Targon: A mountain range housing celestial beings.

Getting Started
League of Legends Getting Started Guide
Welcome to the Rift
League of Legends (LoL) is a complex team-based strategy game. This guide will walk you through your first hour, explain the interface, controls, and common pitfalls so you can start your journey confidently. LoL is PC-only (Windows/macOS) and requires a Riot Games account.

First Hour Walkthrough
#### Step 1: Tutorial and First Match
- Upon logging in, Riot strongly recommends completing the in-game tutorial (accessed from the Play > Tutorial button). The tutorial teaches basic movement, attacking, and turret targeting.
- After the tutorial, play a Co-op vs. AI match on the easiest difficulty (Intro or Beginner). Select the recommended starting champions (Garen, Ashe, Lux are free during the first week).
- A match lasts 20–45 minutes. The map (Summoner’s Rift) has three lanes: Top, Mid, Bottom. A jungle is in between.
- Objectives: Destroy the enemy Nexus (a building in their base) while defending yours.
- Phases: Laning phase (first 10–15 minutes) -> Mid game (grouping up, taking towers/dragons) -> Late game (team fights around Baron Nashor and the Nexus).
- Use Right-click to move your champion. Right-click on enemy minions to attack them.
- Last-hitting: Wait until a minion’s health is very low (green health bar) and then attack it to get gold. Gold = items = power. This is the most important early skill.
#### Step 2: Understand the Game Flow
#### Step 3: Practice Movement and Last-Hitting
---
Controls (PC Only – Mouse & Keyboard)
| Action | Default Key | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Move / Attack Move | Right-click | Right-click on ground to move, on enemy to basic attack |
| Cancel current action | S | Stops movement and attacks |
| Cast Ability 1–4 | Q, W, E, R | R is ultimate (most powerful) |
| Summoner Spell 1 & 2 | D, F | Two spells per game (e.g., Flash, Ignite) |
| Recall (return to base) | B | Takes 8 seconds (channel) |
| Place trinket ward | 4 | Default: Yellow Trinket (sight ward) |
| Purchase recommended items | P | Opens shop; left-click to buy |
| Ping the map | G (default ping), V (danger) | Hold + click to ping |
| Open scoreboard | Tab | See KDA, gold, items, CS |
| Level up ability | Ctrl + Q/W/E/R | Or click the ability icon |
| Quick cast (no indicator) | Shift + Q/W/E/R | Most players enable quick cast in settings |
- Scroll edges of screen to pan, or hold Space to center on your champion.
- Lock/unlock camera with Y (toggle).
- Minimap – Shows allies (blue/green dots), enemies (red dots if visible), wards, objectives. Check it every few seconds.
- Ping wheel – Use to signal danger, on my way, etc.
- Ability icons (Q W E R) – Cooldown timers, level up available (+ sign).
- Summoner spells (D F) – Flash (teleport small distance) most common.
- Trinket (4) – Free ward for vision.
- Items (1-6 and 7 for trinket slot) – Active items (e.g., potions) need pressing.
- Gold counter – Amount of gold; 500g starts, earn more.
- CS (Creep Score) – Number of minions killed. Showed on scoreboard (Tab).
- Team score (Kills/Deaths/Assists) – Red vs Blue side.
- Timers – Game clock, objective spawn timers (Dragon, Baron, etc.).
- Buff entries – If you kill a jungle monster, a buff icon appears.
- Complete the tutorial completely.
- Play at least 5 Co-op vs AI games on Intro difficulty.
- Stick to one role and one champion for your first 10 games (recommended: Garen for Top, Ashe for Bottom AD Carry, Lux for Mid).
- Buy Doran’s Blade/Shield/Ring as starting item, plus a health potion.
- Use the practice tool to practice last-hitting for 10 minutes daily.
- Don’t play ranked until you reach level 30 (unlocked after 60+ games).
- Don’t play champions with high skill requirements (e.g., Lee Sin, Yasuo, Zed).
- Don’t chase kills – Chasing often leads to overextending and dying.
- Don’t attack the first minion wave mindlessly – Last-hit only; pushing the wave too hard makes you vulnerable.
- Don’t ignore pings – Your team may warn of danger.
- Don’t use Flash (D/F) to engage – Keep Flash for escaping or saving yourself.
- [ ] Create a Riot Games account (if you haven’t already).
- [ ] Download and install the client (wait times vary, ~2-4 GB).
- [ ] Log in and complete the in-game tutorial (summoner name free, no character creation – champions are chosen per match).
- [ ] Play your first Co-op vs AI game on Intro difficulty.
- [ ] Play two more Co-op vs AI games (total 3).
- [ ] Try the Practice Tool to last-hit for 10 minutes.
- [ ] Set up your controls (enable quick cast if comfortable, adjust camera lock).
- [ ] Read the champion spotlight for your chosen champion (YouTube or in-client).
- [ ] Join the official League of Legends Discord and ask for tips in #newplayers channel.
- [ ] Understand the summoner spells: Flash (essential on every champion) + either Teleport (top) or Heal/Ignite (bot/mid).
- [ ] Unlock free champion rotation – you get 15 free champions each week. Pick one that looks fun and simple (e.g., Garen, Ashe, Annie, Warwick, Sona).
- [ ] Do not play Blind Pick (you will be matched with experienced players). Stick to Co-op vs AI until level 10+.
- [ ] Watch a beginner-friendly streamer (e.g., Neace’s “LoL Basics” series or Phreak’s patch notes).
- Be patient. League has a steep learning curve. You will die; learn from each death.
- Communication – Use pings (G key) rather than typing. Chat can be toxic, mute toxic players (Tab > mute button).
- Mute all – If you’re sensitive to criticism, mute everyone in chat by typing `/mute all` at the start.
- Leveling up – Playing games grants XP to increase your account level (max 30). You unlock summoner spells, runes (free system now), and ranked mode at 30.
- Runes and Summoner Spells – Before each game, select your preset rune page (recommended pages work fine) and adjust summoner spells. Use auto-fill for now.

UI Overview
#### In-Game HUD (Heads-Up Display)
Bottom Center: Your champion, health bar (green/grey), mana/energy bar (blue/yellow). Level indicator.
Bottom Left:
Bottom Right:
Top of Screen:
Shop – Press P to open. Recommended items tab is best for beginners. Buy items when you recall or die.
---
Essential Early Objectives
1. Get 30–50 CS by 10 minutes – The standard benchmark for beginners.
2. Do NOT die to enemy champions – Death gives gold to opponents and sets you back. Play safe behind your minions.
3. Place your free ward – Use trinket (4) in a bush near your lane to avoid ganks.
4. Recall when low on health or mana – Better to base and return than die. Use health potions (bought at start).
5. Help secure Dragon (bottom side) and Rift Herald (top side) – Around 5 minutes, but don’t force it.
6. Destroy the outer tower of your lane – It gives global gold and map control.
---
What to Do First and What to Avoid
#### Do First:
#### Avoid:
---
Early Resource Priorities
Gold: Use exclusively for items. Do not save gold beyond the next item’s cost – spend it. Prioritize component items (e.g., Pickaxe, Long Sword).
Experience: Stay within range of dying minions to gain XP. Even if you can’t last-hit, being near minion deaths gives you XP. Falling behind in level = weaker.
Health & Mana: Use health potions (bought at start or with refillable potion) to sustain. Recall when below 30% HP unless you can farm safely.
Wards: Your trinket (Yellow Ward) lasts 90-120 seconds. Place it in the river bush. Replace with Oracle Lens (red trinket) later to clear enemy wards.
---
Common Beginner Mistakes
1. Overstaying – Not recalling when you have no health/mana. This leads to death.
2. Not looking at minimap – Tunnel vision on your champion. Glance every 5 seconds.
3. Spamming abilities – Mana runs out fast. Save abilities for last-hitting or trading.
4. Ignoring turret aggro – Don’t attack enemy champion under their turret unless you can kill instantly (low health). Turret lasers hurt.
5. Building wrong items – Follow the recommended item set. Don’t copy pro builds without understanding them.
6. Trying to 1v5 – You cannot solo the enemy team. Wait for your team.
7. Not using attack move – To avoid mis-clicks, practice Attack Move (Shift + Right-click) or bind it to a side mouse button.
8. Neglecting CS for kills – A kill is ~300g, but 20 minions is more gold. Prioritize farming.

Core Gameplay
League of Legends Core Gameplay Guide
Overview of the Core Gameplay Loop
League of Legends is a 5v5 multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) where two teams compete to destroy the opposing team's Nexus (base structure). The game is played on the Summoner's Rift map, which is divided into three lanes (Top, Mid, Bottom) and a jungle area between them. Each player controls a single champion (hero) with unique abilities. The core loop involves:
- Laning phase (early game): farming minions, trading damage, and avoiding ganks.
- Mid-game rotations: grouping with teammates to take objectives (Dragon, Rift Herald, turrets).
- Late-game teamfights: securing Baron Nashor, Elder Dragon, and pushing for the enemy Nexus.
- Endgame: closing out the match through superior macro play and objective control.
- Laning: Two champions (solo lanes) or two pairs (bottom lane) face off, last-hitting minions for gold and experience. Supports and junglers roam.
- Warding and Vision: Place Stealth Wards and Control Wards to see enemy movements. Every player starts with a Warding Totem trinket.
- Jungle Pathing (Jungle role): Kill camps (Blue/Red Buff, Gromp, Wolves, Raptors, Krugs) in an optimized route to get level 3 quickly and gank lanes.
- Auto-attacks: Basic attacks scale with Attack Damage (AD) or Ability Power (AP) depending on the champion.
- Abilities: Q, W, E, R (ultimate at level 6). Each has cooldowns, mana/energy costs, and specific effects (damage, crowd control, mobility).
- Summoner Spells: Flash (blink), Ignite (damage+heal reduction), Teleport, Smite (for junglers), Barrier, Heal, Exhaust, Ghost, Cleans. Each player selects two before the match.
- Trading: Deal damage while minimizing return damage. Key concept: when an enemy uses a crucial ability, they are vulnerable. Example: Ahri misses her Charm (E) → you can trade aggressively.
- Experience: Gained from minions, jungle monsters, champion kills/assists. Leveling up increases base stats and unlocks ability ranks.
- Gold: Earned from last-hitting minions (~14–24 gold each), killing champions (300 gold base, more/less based on kill streak), and assists (150 gold split). Junglers earn gold from camps.
- Item Purchasing: Recall to shop. Buy starting items (Doran's Blade, Doran's Ring, Corrupting Potion, etc.) then build into core items. Early game items give stats like health, damage, mana regen.
- The entire map is fog-of-war. Exploration is about checking brushes for ambushes, scouting the river for enemy jungle presence, and tracking the enemy jungler’s position via wards or missing lanes.
- Key Locations: Lane minion waves, jungle camps, neutral objectives (Dragon/Rift Herald pit). No hidden areas; map changes only when structures are destroyed.
- In-game quest: None. The only mission is to destroy the enemy Nexus. However, certain runes/items reward objectives (e.g., Electrocute procs on 3 hits, Dark Harvest stacks on champion takedowns).
- Event missions (outside match): Account-level missions (First Win of the Day, event pass missions) reward Blue Essence, Champion Tokens, or cosmetics.
- In-match economy: Gold is the only currency. It flows from minions, monsters, towers, and champion kills. Support items (e.g., Spellthief's Edge) generate gold via poking enemies.
- Out-of-match economy: Blue Essence (BE) from leveling/events unlocks champions. Riot Points (RP) purchased with real money buy skins, boosts, and pass content.
- Champion Mastery (account-wide): Earn mastery points per game with a champion; progress through levels 1–7. Each level unlocks a new emote/chest.
- Runes: Before match, select a primary and secondary rune path (e.g., Precision + Domination). These provide persistent bonuses like extra damage, sustain, or utility. Examples: Conqueror (stacking AD/AP), Aftershock (defensive burst).
- Item Builds: Every champion has recommended items, but optimal builds adapt to the enemy team. Example: Against heavy magic damage, build Maw of Malmortius (AD/AP) or Force of Nature (tank).
- Early game has no endgame – it's the foundation. A good early game sets up for mid-game. Endgame only applies to the overall match.
- Grouping: Laning phase ends when outer towers fall (typically around 12–18 minutes). Teams group as 5 to fight for Drake (elemental bonuses) or Rift Herald (siege token).
- Roaming: Mid laner and support leave lane to gank other lanes or assist jungle invades.
- Objective Prioritization: First Dragon is important for permanent stats. Herald can be used to take first tower top or mid.
- Teamfights: 5v5 skirmishes over objectives. Positioning key: tanks engage, carries deal damage from safety, supports peel/heal.
- Crowd Control Synergy: Combos like Orianna R (shockwave) + Malphite R (unstoppable force) can wipe a team.
- Item Power Spikes: Completed items like Infinity Edge (critical damage), Liandry's Torment (burn), or Sunfire Aegis (tank aura) greatly increase power.
- Leveling: Slows down; champions reach level 11–13. Ultimate ability is rank 2.
- Gold Income: Shifts from minions to kills/assists and objective bounties. Takedown gold becomes significant.
- Item Completion: Most champions finish 2–3 items by mid-game. Support completes mythic + boots.
- Vision Control: Warding the river, dragon pit, and enemy jungle paths. Use Control Wards to deny enemy vision.
- Invading: Sneaking into enemy jungle to steal camps or place deep wards. Example: jungler walks into enemy blue buff area to steal while opponent is on other side.
- Dragon Soul: After one team kills 4 Dragons, they get a permanent Dragon Soul (e.g., Ocean Soul: heal on damage). This is a major mid-game objective.
- Rift Herald Summoning: Placed in a lane to push turrets. Not a quest but a strategic decision.
- Bounties: Champions with many kills give extra gold (200–600+). Teams behind may get comeback gold (25–100 per kill).
- Item Reworks: Mythic items (everfrost, galeforce, etc.) completed – each provides a unique passive (e.g., Goredrinker: active AoE heal).
- Rune Scaling: Some runes scale with game time (e.g., Gathering Storm gives AD/AP every 10 minutes).
- Build Adaptation: Start building defensive items (e.g., Zhonya's Hourglass vs AD, Spirit Visage vs AP) if enemy team is fed.
- Mid-game sets up for late. If one team dominates, they can end before late game (15–20 minute surrender possible).
- Baron Nashor: Extremely powerful neutral monster at 20:00. Killing Baron gives a Baron Buff (empowered minions, bonus stats) that helps push turrets.
- Elder Dragon: Appears after 35:00 if no team has Dragon Soul. Elder buff gives a execute on low-health enemies.
- Sieging and Split Pushing: Team groups mid to push, while a strong duelist (e.g., Fiora) pushes a side lane.
- Late-Game Teamfights: Often decisive. Positioning is critical – one misposition can lose the game. Flash + engage combos are common.
- Objective Fights: Fight over Baron pit or Elder pit. Area control with vision (wards, Oracle Lens trinkets).
- Inhibitors: Destroying enemy inhibitor spawns super minions in that lane, putting pressure.
- Level cap: 18. At level 16+, ultimate is rank 3, drastically increasing power (e.g., Karthus R deals massive global damage).
- Full Build: Most champions have 6 items by 30 minutes. Boots are upgraded (e.g., Berserker's Greaves, Mercury's Treads).
- Gold Efficiency: Every gold spent matters. Selling items is inefficient (70% refund), so build order is crucial.
- Complete Map Clear: All jungle camps are cleared quickly. Teams rotate as a unit, rarely solo farming.
- Warding Depth: Deep wards in enemy base, near Nexus turrets, to spot rotations.
- Elder Dragon Soul: After 35:00, Elder Dragon spawns; killing it gives a powerful but temporary buff (lasts 120 seconds or until death). This is the ultimate late-game objective.
- Nexus Push: Destroying the enemy Nexus ends the game. No further quests.
- Gold plateau: Full builds – extra gold is spent on Elixirs (orange=ad, blue=ap, green=tank) which last until death. Also Vision Wards restocked.
- Baron Gold: 300 gold per team member, plus minion buff.
- Completed Build: No more growth in-match. Champion power is static except for Elixirs and Baron buff.
- Passive Abilities: Some champions scale infinitely (e.g., Veigar gains AP from hitting abilities; Nasus stacks Q damage). These become monstrous late game.
- Late game is the endgame of the match. The winning team pushes to Nexus. Close games go to 40+ minutes.
- No further progression tiers after late game. The match ends when one Nexus is destroyed. Endgame is the concept of closing out the match.
- Comebacks: Teams that lose early/mid can still win with superior late-game teamfighting or objective steals (e.g., Elder Dragon steal).
- Ranked End-of-Season: After each season (roughly 1 year), players receive rewards based on their highest rank (e.g., Victorious skins, borders).
- Clash Tournaments: Weekend tournaments where teams compete for trophies and cosmetics.
- Champion Mastery: Continue grinding mastery 6/7 tokens for your favorite champions.
- Event Passes: Unlock additional missions, orbs, prestige points.
- Auto-Attack vs Ability: Both deal damage, but abilities often have secondary effects (stun, slow, heal). Use abilities to win trades.
- Crowd Control: Stuns (e.g., Morgana Q), snares, silences, knockups (e.g., Yasuo Q3), slows. CC reduces damage via Tenacity (runes/items).
- Invulnerability/Untargetability: Zhonya's Hourglass active, Fizz E, Master Yi Q – can dodge abilities or tower shots.
- Summoner Level: Unlocks rune slots, summoner spells, and champion rotations. Max level 30+ (infinite, but no gameplay after 30 except for levels).
- Blue Essence: Earned via level-up capsules and event missions. Used to buy champions.
- Champion Mastery: Earn points per game; higher tiers unlock emote mastery and champion-specific loot.
Matches typically last 25–45 minutes. Progression is per-match only – champions gain experience and gold during the game, then reset to level 1 at the start of the next match. Account-level progression (Summoner Levels, Blue Essence, Champion Mastery) is persistent but does not affect in-match power.

Map Objectives Timers
| Objective | First Spawn | Respawn Time | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Scuttle Crab | 1:30 | 2:30 (despawns at 2:00 respawn) | Gives vision and healing in river |
| Rift Herald (first) | 8:00 | Once per game | Can be slain before 18:00, replaced by Baron at 20:00 |
| Dragon | 5:00 | 5:00 (dragon soul at 4 drakes) | First dragon spawns after 5:00; soul and elder later |
| Baron Nashor | 20:00 | 6:00 (spawns until 55:00) | Elder takes over at 35:00 |
| Elder Dragon | 35:00 | 6:00 | Spawns after Baron is slain or dragon soul acquired |
Example Early Game Scenario (Top Lane, Level 3)
- You are playing Darius vs Garen. You start Doran's Blade + Health Potion. At level 1, you take Decimate (Q) to poke. At level 2, Crippling Strike (W) for slow. At level 3, Apprehend (E) to pull. You last hit minions, trading when Garen uses his Decisive Strike (Q) – you E+W+Q combo him and win the trade. You use your potion. The enemy jungler (e.g., Lee Sin) shows top; you ward the river brush and back off. By 5 minutes, you have 1200 gold, recall to buy Kindlegem and Boots. This sets you up for mid-game.
- Team A has Jinx (AD carry) with full build (Galeforce, Runaan's, Infinity Edge, Lord Dominik's, Guardian Angel). Team B has Malphite tank with Sunfire Aegis, Thornmail, Abyssal Mask, etc. Fight starts as Baron contest. Malphite engages with Unstoppable Force (R) onto Jinx, but Jinx uses Galeforce active to dodge. Team A focuses Malphite quickly with Mortal Reminder (anti-heal). Jinx gets a kill and activates Get Excited! (movespeed). Team A cleans up, secures Baron, and pushes to win.

Conclusion
League of Legends' core gameplay is a minute-to-minute strategic dance across four distinct phases (early, mid, late, end-of-match). Success requires mastering last-hitting, cooldown tracking, vision control, objective management, and teamfight coordination. The out-of-match progression (champion acquisition, mastery, ranked seasons) provides long-term goals, but the real depth lies in the infinite variation within each match. Use this guide to understand what you should focus on at each stage of the game, and you will climb the ranks.

Combat Tips
#### Beginner: Last Hitting Minions
- Tip: Focus on landing the killing blow on minions to secure gold. Do not auto‑attack minions randomly.
- Why It Works: Only the player who deals the final hit receives gold. Consistent last hitting builds a gold lead that translates into stronger items faster.
- When to Use: Every wave, especially in the laning phase. Practice patience and time your attack before your minion attacks land the killing blow.
- Tip: Attack the enemy champion when they step forward to last hit a minion. Use an auto‑attack or ability, then back off.
- Why It Works: The enemy cannot attack back simultaneously while last hitting. This is called a “trade” and grants free damage if timed correctly.
- When to Use: Whenever the enemy is about to last hit a high‑value minion (cannon, siege) or is in a vulnerable animation.
- Tip: To freeze the wave, keep 3–4 enemy caster minions alive and tank them until your next wave arrives. To slow push, leave enemy minions alive and kill only the enemy wave’s melee minions.
- Why It Works: Freezing denies the enemy gold and experience while making them vulnerable to ganks. Slow pushing builds a large wave that can dive the enemy under tower or set up a roam.
- When to Use: Freeze when ahead but unable to kill under tower; slow push before recalling or when preparing for an objective.
- Tip: Place your trinket ward in the river bush near your lane at 3:00–3:30 (average jungler clear time).
- Why It Works: Most junglers finish their first buff and look for a gank around this time. The ward gives you time to react.
- When to Use: Every laning phase, especially if you are pushed up.
- Tip: When Baron or Dragon is spawning, place a Control Ward in the pit and clear enemy wards with a Sweeper Lens.
- Why It Works: Denying vision around an objective allows your team to engage unexpectedly or steal it safely.
- When to Use: 1:30 before any major objective (Dragon, Rift Herald, Baron). Coordinate with support and jungler.
- Tip: Wards placed in the enemy jungle (e.g., at their buff camps or entrance) reveal when the jungler is pathing toward you. Time your wards to match their camp respawn timers (every 5 minutes for buffs).
- Why It Works: Knowledge of the enemy jungler’s position lets you play aggressively or safely, and allows your team to invade or counter‑gank.
- When to Use: After you have lane priority (pushed wave) and are not at risk of dying. Supports should buy a Pink Ward and place it deep.
- Tip: Cannon minions grant 90 gold (base) and significant experience. Prioritize killing them over other minions.
- Why It Works: Missing a cannon costs you roughly two melee minions worth of gold. The bonus experience also delays level spikes.
- When to Use: Whenever a cannon wave arrives, focus them immediately, especially if under tower.
- Tip: Recall when you have enough gold for a key item component (e.g., Noonquiver for ADCs, Lost Chapter for mages) and when the wave is pushed to the enemy tower.
- Why It Works: Returning with a stronger item gives you a power advantage in the next trade. Pushing the wave ensures minimal minion loss.
- When to Use: After killing the enemy laner, forcing them to recall, or when you have 1200+ gold early.
- Tip: Zone the enemy away from the minion wave after you hit level 2 or 3. Stand between them and the wave to deny experience if you have a health advantage.
- Why It Works: Experience is more important than gold early. A two‑level lead can be game‑deciding. Zoning denies them experience without direct combat.
- When to Use: After hitting a level spike first (e.g., Level 2 on Lucian, Level 6 on Annie). Be careful not to take tower shots or minion aggro.
- Tip: Use a recommended build from websites like U.GG or OP.GG. Complete your Mythic item first (e.g., Kraken Slayer, Liandry’s Torment).
- Why It Works: Mythic items provide a huge power spike and unique passive. Building them first ensures you are strong in mid‑game fights.
- When to Use: Every game until you understand situational adjustments.
- Tip: Buy armor penetration (LDR) if the enemy has two or more tanks; buy magic resist (Maw, Banshee’s) if fed AP. Build Grievous Wounds (Executioner’s Calling, Morellonomicon) against healers.
- Why It Works: A standard build fails against specific threats. Adapting counters the enemy’s strengths. For example, Mortal Reminder vs. Soraka prevents her from healing your kills.
- When to Use: Check the enemy team during loading screen. Adjust your second or third item accordingly.
- Tip: Upgrade boots to Plated Steelcaps or Mercury’s Treads early (first back) if against heavy AD/CC, or wait for Berserker’s Greaves for attack speed. Swifty Boots if you need to dodge skillshots.
- Why It Works: Early boots give movement speed to dodge abilities and roam. Specific boots counter enemy damage types (armor vs. AD, tenacity vs. CC).
- When to Use: Against AD assassins (Zed, Talon) build Steelcaps; against CC mages (Lux, Morgana) build Mercs. Rushing boots is strongest before level 9.
- Tip: The jungler gets gold and experience from camps and kills. Do not steal their camps early unless you are a lane that scales with farm (e.g., Karthus, Yi).
- Why It Works: Junglers need camps to stay relevant. Taking them sets your jungler behind and can tilt them.
- When to Use: Let your jungler clear their camps. Only take a camp if the jungler is dead and you need a few seconds to push.
- Tip: If the enemy team is starting Dragon, and your team cannot contest, take Rift Herald or an outer tower instead.
- Why It Works: Every objective has a risk/reward ratio. Trading denies the enemy a full lead and keeps gold/tempo even.
- When to Use: Whenever you see the enemy focusing an objective and you are outnumbered or weak. Ping your team to rotate.
- Tip: Track your personal gold per minute (GPM). Aim for 400–500 GPM as a laner, 600+ as a carry. Minimize time spent idling—always be farming, fighting, or doing an objective.
- Why It Works: Higher GPM means faster items, leading to earlier power spikes. Idling (recalling with nothing to buy, walking aimlessly) wastes resources.
- When to Use: Review your ingame stats; use the replay system to identify downtime. Practice clearing jungle camps between waves in the mid‑game.
- Tip: After laning phase (15–20 minutes), group with your team for Dragon and Baron. Do not stay alone in a side lane when an objective is up.
- Why It Works: 4v5 or 3v5 fights often lose objectives. Your presence increases odds of securing the buff.
- When to Use: Ping “on my way” to objectives at the 30‑second mark before spawn. If you are split pushing, only do so if you have teleport or the objective is not contested.
- Tip: Start Baron with your team but do not commit fully. If the enemy comes to check, back off and wait for them to face check a bush. Then engage.
- Why It Works: This capitalizes on the enemy’s panic. They may blow crucial cooldowns trying to rush vision, giving you a free engage.
- When to Use: When your team has a health advantage but cannot fight 5v5 directly. Works best with strong burst champions (e.g., Syndra, Rengar).
- Tip: In the mid‑game, slow push a side lane (top or bot) by killing only the ranged minions. This builds a massive wave that will crash into the enemy tower in 2–3 minutes.<br>
- Why It Works: The enemy loses farm and is forced to split resources. Your team gains a numbers advantage.
- When to Use: When you have teleport or you are a split‑push champion (Tryndamere, Fiora). Coordinate with your team to disengage from fights you cannot win.
- Tip: Use your stun (passive at 4 stacks) to secure kills. Flash > Tibbers > Q > W combo catches enemies off guard.<br>
- Why It Works: Annie is a burst mage; her stun guarantees your skillshots land. Roaming on cooldown spreads her gold lead to the team.<br>
- When to Use: At level 6 after pushing wave. Look for opportunities mid‑game.
- Tip: Build Sheen (350g component) on first back if you have 400g. Sheen’s passive procs on Ezreal’s Q, doubling his damage output.<br>
- Why It Works: Ezreal’s Q applies on‑hit effects; Sheen adds 100% base AD bonus damage. This spikes his trades significantly.<br>
- When to Use: Against any lane opponent. Delay finishing Essence Reaver or Trinity Force until you have Sheen + Manamune components.<br>
- Tip: Use W (Safeguard) to a minion or ally behind the enemy, then R (Dragon’s Rage) to kick them into your team. Practice the flash variant: Flash behind target > R immediately.<br>
- Why It Works: Lee Sin’s ultimate displacement can instantly delete a carry from a fight. The “Insec” kick is a core mechanic to master.<br>
- When to Use: In mid‑game skirmishes or teamfights. Use when the enemy ADC is out of position or you need to force a pick.
- Mute Toxic Players: Use /mute all at the start of the game to avoid distractions. Focus on your own gameplay.<br>
- Ping Smart: Use the Alt + click to ping danger, assistance, or “on my way.” Frequent pings improve coordination.<br>
- Practice Tool: Spend 10 minutes daily practicing last hitting without items in Practice Tool. Gradually increase difficulty by adding a bot opponent.<br>
- Watch Your Replays: After every loss, watch the first 10 minutes to identify three mistakes. Focus on fixing one at a time.<br>
- Mental Game: If you lose two games in a row, take a 15‑minute break. Tilt reduces decision‑making quality.<br>

Game Settings
League of Legends Game Settings Guide
Introduction
League of Legends settings are split between the Riot Client (launcher) and the in-game settings menu (accessed via the gear icon in the top-right corner of the client or by pressing `Esc` during a match). This guide covers every major category: Graphics, Audio, Controls, Accessibility, Language, Network, and Gameplay, with actionable recommendations for performance and competitive play.
Accessing Settings
- Client Settings: Click your profile icon in the top-right of the Riot Client → Settings. Here you set language, region (if applicable), and some game launch options.
- In-Game Settings: Press `Esc` during a match (or click the gear icon on the home screen of the client). The in-game menu has tabs: Video, Audio, Hotkeys, Interface (Gameplay), and more.

---
Controls (Hotkeys) Settings
This tab is critical and often misconfigured by new players.
#### Default Keybinds (Standard)
- Abilities: Q, W, E, R
- Summoner Spells: D, F
- Trinket: 4 (or 4 default slot)
- Attack Move: A + Left Click (default)
- Stop / Hold Position: S
- Smart Cast (Quick Cast): All abilities on Q,W,E,R (no indicator) – this is the most common competitive setup
- Quick Cast with Indicator: Default is Shift+Q, Shift+W, etc., but many bind indicator to normal keys and enable quick cast in Interface.
#### Smart Cast vs Normal Cast
| Cast Type | Behavior | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| Normal Cast | Press key then click to aim (shows range indicator) | Learning a new champion, skillshot practice |
| Quick Cast | Fires instantly when you press the key (no indicator) | High-speed reaction, combos |
| Quick Cast with Indicator | Shows range while holding key, fires on release | Intermediate – offers both speed and visual feedback |
#### Attack Move Variants
- Attack Move (A+Left Click): Default – attacks nearest target in click direction.
- Attack Move Click (Default Shift+Right Click or unbound): Attacks nearest target to cursor without a left click.
- Player Attack Move Click (new default?): Often bound to a mouse button (e.g., side button) – extremely useful for kiting.
- Camera Lock: Default Space (hold to center). Most players use unlocked camera and hold Space for temporary centering. Locked camera is not recommended for map awareness.
- Self-Cast Modifier: Default Alt+Ability – casts buffs/shields on yourself. Leave as is.
- Champion Specific Hotkeys: There are none in LoL, but you can set per-ability quick cast/indicator in-game via the little arrow next to each ability on the HUD (press Esc to access).
Critical Setting: Under Gameplay tab (Interface), enable “Attack Move on Cursor” – if OFF, attack move will target the nearest enemy to your champion, which is worse. With ON, it targets whatever is closest to your mouse cursor. This is a common source of misclicks.
#### Other Important Settings
Misconfiguration Red Flag: Not binding Attack Move Click to a mouse button. Also, keeping Normal Cast on all keys makes combos slow. Adjust early.
---
Accessibility Settings
| Setting | Description | Recommendation |
|---|---|---|
| Colorblind Mode | Changes color of health bars/minions from green/red to alternative palettes (Deuteranopia, Protanopia, Tritanopia). | ON even if not colorblind – it changes enemy health bars to a clearer orange/red and ally to blue, improving contrast. |
| Cursor Size | Small / Medium / Large | Large – easier to track in teamfights. |
| Minimap Scale | Size of minimap (0–100) | 60–80% – enough to see ganks. |
| Chat Scale | Font size in chat | Default is fine; increase if you have vision issues. |
| Show Timestamps | Displays time in chat | Enable for better shotcalling. |
---
Language Settings
- Client Language: The language can be changed in the Riot Client settings (top-right profile icon → Settings → General → Language). This affects all text (menus, champion names, ability descriptions).
- Voiceover Language: In League of Legends, the voiceover language is tied to the client language. There is no official way to have, e.g., English text with Japanese voices without editing config files (not recommended as it may break with patches).
- Server Default: Some regions (e.g., Korea, China) have a fixed language. If you live in one region but want another language, you must change the client language before launching the game.
- No major pitfalls other than the fact that changing client language will also change the game’s announcer and champion voices – not just text.
- Toggle Ping/FPS Display: Press `Ctrl+F` during a match to show ping (ms) and frames per second (FPS) in the top-right corner.
- Recommended: Keep `Ctrl+F` on during every game to watch for lag spikes.
- Optimizing Connection:
- Server Selection: You cannot choose a specific server in-game; the client uses the region you selected during account creation. If you experience high ping, consider quitting and checking your region (NA, EUW, EUNE, etc.).
---
Network Settings
League of Legends does not expose a network settings tab inside the game. However, you can monitor your connection:
- Use wired Ethernet instead of Wi-Fi.
- Close bandwidth-heavy applications (Streaming, downloads).
- Avoid VPNs unless you need to bypass regional restrictions (they increase latency).
---
Gameplay Settings (Interface Tab)
#### Key Options
| Setting | Description | Recommendation |
|---|---|---|
| Auto-Attack Enabled | Champion automatically attacks nearest enemy when idle | OFF – prevents accidental tower dives and lets you control your character precisely. |
| Attack Move on Cursor | Affects behavior of Attack Move (A+Click) | ON – attacks nearest to mouse cursor, not champion. Critical for kiting. |
| Treat Attack Move as a Target Ability | Available only when Attack Move Click is bound. When ON, you must have a visible target to attack; otherwise you walk. | OFF – allows “attack move” on the ground to attack nearest target even if no unit is clicked. |
| Enable Quick Cast | Toggle all abilities to smart cast | Enable unless you want manual cast. You can set per-ability in hotkeys. |
| Display Summoner Spell Timers | Timer overlay when enemies use summoners | ON – essential for tracking enemy Flash/Teleport cooldowns. |
| Minimap Movement | Click minimap to move camera | Keep default (no change needed). |
| Scroll Sensitivity | Speed of camera scrolling | Adjust to your comfort; middle of the slider is fine. |
| Invert Mouse Controls | Invert Y-axis | OFF – not useful for this game. |
| Camera Lock Toggle | Toggle locked camera with Y (default) | Most players use unlocked camera; toggle only for brief fights. |
| Relative Team Colors | Use blue/orange for minimap instead of blue/red | Personal preference; colorblind mode already changes this. |
1. Auto-Attack OFF is one of the most important settings for intermediate+ players. New players often leave it on and then accidentally attack minions instead of last hitting or walk into enemy towers.
2. Attack Move on Cursor – if you ever wonder why your champion randomly walks toward enemies instead of attacking, it’s because this is OFF. Turn it ON.
3. Quick Cast vs Normal Cast – as mentioned, it’s a common trap. Set early.
---
Conclusion
Optimizing your settings in League of Legends is a personal process, but the above recommendations are grounded in competitive play and performance testing. For the smoothest experience, turn off V-Sync, cap your FPS to your monitor’s refresh rate, use smart cast, and enable Attack Move on Cursor. Adjust graphics according to your hardware using the tier table, and always monitor your ping and FPS with `Ctrl+F`. Revisit your settings after major patches, as some options may reset. Good luck on the Rift!

Important Notes
Important Notes for League of Legends
Warnings and Pitfalls
- Vanguard Anti-Cheat: As of 2024, Riot Games enforces Vanguard (kernel-level anti-cheat) for League of Legends. You must have Vanguard running to launch the game. Do not disable or tamper with it — doing so can lead to permanent account bans. If Vanguard conflicts with other software (e.g., some hardware monitoring or virtualization tools), resolve the conflict or risk being unable to play.
- Toxicity and Penalties: League has a zero-tolerance policy for hate speech, harassment, intentional feeding, and AFK behavior. Penalties range from chat restrictions to 14-day suspensions or permanent bans (especially for repeated offenses). Use the mute button liberally and report toxic players through the post-game lobby.
- Account Security: Never share your account credentials. Riot Support will never ask for your password. Enable two-factor authentication (2FA) via email or app to prevent hacking. Scammers often promise free skins or RP — these are always fake.
- Refunds: You get three refund tokens for life, each refunding a purchase made within the last 90 days (skins, champions, etc.). Use them only on expensive mistakes. Hextech crafting items (chests, keys, etc.) are not refundable. Once you use Blue Essence to upgrade a champion shard to a permanent champion, you cannot revert it.
- Server Transfer: Changing your server (e.g., from NA to EUW) costs 2600 RP and cannot be undone unless you pay again. Your friend list, chat history, and some regional data do not transfer. Unused RP and Blue Essence remain on the original server. Think carefully before transferring.
- Name Change: Changing your Summoner name costs 1300 RP (or 13900 Blue Essence, if available as an option). Once changed, your old name may be released to the public after 30 days. You cannot reclaim it unless someone else hasn't taken it.
- Skin Purchases: If you buy a skin for a champion you dislike or will never play, that RP is gone. Skin shards can be rerolled into permanent skins, but the outcome is random. There are no trade or exchange systems for skins.
- Champion Mastery Levels: While not irreversible per se, sinking Blue Essence into Mastery Tokens for a champion you never play is wasteful. Only raise mastery for champions you enjoy or plan to main.
- Ranked Decay: In ranked play, if you do not play for 28 days (in Platinum+), you begin losing LP from inactivity. If demoted, you cannot recover that LP without climbing again.
- Event Passes and Rewards: Each battle pass (e.g., Spirit Blossom, Star Guardian) offers exclusive skins, chromas, icons, and borders that are never obtainable again after the event ends (except rarely through returning events). If you want a specific reward, you must purchase the pass and grind it before the deadline.
- Season Rewards: Each ranked season ends with a unique Victorious skin (e.g., Victorious Sona, Victorious Sejuani) and chromas for higher ranks. These skins are exclusive to that season. You cannot earn them later.
- Honor Rewards: If you reach Honor level 5, you can earn exclusive skins like Medieval Twitch or Grey Warwick, but these are only available as rewards if you maintain high honor. If you get chat banned and drop to Honor 0, you may lose access to future rewards.
- Legacy Vault: Some skins are marked "Legacy" and only available during certain times (e.g., Harrowing, Snowdown, or special events). If you miss them, you must wait a full year or rely on chests/rerolls (which are luck-based).
- Clash Rewards: Winning a Clash tournament gives unique banners, icons, and a trophy. These are tied to that specific Clash event and cannot be obtained later.
- First 30 Levels: Until you reach Summoner Level 30, you are locked out of Ranked play. During this time, you face players of varying skill levels, including smurfs (experienced players on new accounts). Expect a steep learning curve in the first 10–20 matches as you learn last-hitting, map awareness, and champion abilities.
- Ranked Placements: Your first 10 ranked games are placement matches. Win 8 or more and you might start in Gold or Platinum; win 2 and you may start in Iron or Bronze. The system can be brutal — focus on improvement, not just wins.
- Elo Barriers: Each rank tier (e.g., Silver 1 to Gold 4) has a "promotion series" system (best of 3 or 5). These games are often high-pressure and can cause frustration. Stick to your best champions and consistent roles.
- Champion Complexity: Some champions have extraordinarily high skill ceilings (e.g., Lee Sin, Yasuo, Riven, Azir, Thresh). Beginners who attempt them often feed unintentionally. Start with easier champions (e.g., Annie, Garen, Ashe, Lux, Soraka) until you understand fundamentals.
- Blue Essence Waste: Do not spend Blue Essence buying every champion release. Use the weekly free rotation to try champions before buying. Once you buy a champion with BE, you cannot refund it (unless within a refund token). Instead, use Champion Shards from hextech chests to disenchant duplicates into BE — this is a better long-term economy.
- XP Boosts: Purchasing XP boosts with RP speeds up account leveling but does not grant Blue Essence. If you only need BE to unlock champions, XP boosts are inefficient. Use them only if you want to rush to Ranked.
- Rune Pages: Rune pages are now free (you can create as many as you like). Do not buy rune pages — they are no longer a thing. Similarly, do not spend BE on old runes or masteries.
- Hextech Crafting: Opening chests and key fragments is random. Do not buy an excessive number of keys or chests hoping for a specific skin; the odds are low. You are better off saving for the skin directly.
- Skin Sales: Skins go on sale (discount) only during specific sales (e.g., Your Shop, seasonal sales). Buying a full-price skin right before a sale is a common regret. Wait if you can.
- Mute and Report: In-game, use /mute all (to mute pings and chat from everyone) if a teammate is toxic. Do not engage; arguing reduces your performance and can be reported. Post-game, use the report button for offensive chat, inting, or AFK.
- Ban Phase: In Ranked Draft, you and your team must ban champions. Coordinate with your team (type in chat). Never ban a teammate’s hovered champion — that is considered trolling.
- Position Roles: Before the game, select your primary/secondary roles. Do not queue as Fill if you are uncomfortable with support or jungle. Be prepared to play off-role if auto-filled, and never force a teammate to swap.
- Remake: If a player is AFK at the start of the game (before 3:00 in-game time), call a /remake vote (in chat type /remake). This ends the game with no MMR penalty but loses LP for the AFK player. Refusing to remake penalizes your team.
- AFK/Dodge: Dodging champion select (closing the client) incurs LP loss and a temporary queue delay. Repeated dodging can lead to a 12-hour or even 24-hour ban. Only dodge if you absolutely must.
- Anti-Cheat Enforcement: Vanguard records your system actions while running. If you use macro keyboards or scripts (third-party automated inputs), you risk a ban even if not caught immediately. Riot’s detection is sophisticated. Do not cheat.
- No Local Saves: League of Legends is entirely server-based. There are no save files on your computer. Your progress (champions, skins, rank, honor) is tied to your account on Riot’s servers.
- Account Recovery: If you forget your password, use the "Forgot Username" or "Forgot Password" option on the Riot Client. Linking your account to a phone number or email is crucial. Without it, recovery is extremely difficult.
- Regional Lock: Some regions (e.g., China, Korea, Japan) have separate account systems. You cannot merge accounts across regions. If you move countries permanently, you may need to start a new account (or transfer via 2600 RP).
- Two-Factor Authentication: Enable 2FA in your Riot account settings. This prevents unauthorized logins even if your password is stolen.
- [ ] Enable 2FA on your Riot account.
- [ ] Use Practice Tool for 10 minutes before your first ranked game.
- [ ] Stick to 2–3 simple champions per role.
- [ ] Always buy a Control Ward on each recall.
- [ ] Mute toxic teammates immediately.
- [ ] Never buy XP boosts with RP.
- [ ] Only spend Blue Essence on champions you are sure you like.
- [ ] Claim all event missions before they expire.
- [ ] Avoid cheating or third-party scripts — Vanguard will detect them.
- [ ] If you disconnect, rejoin as fast as possible; AFK penalties are harsh.

Things Players Commonly Regret Not Knowing Earlier
1. Practice Tool Exists: Many beginners waste time in live games testing builds or combos. The Practice Tool (available from the Play menu) lets you spawn bots, reset cooldowns, and practice last-hitting or combos without pressure. Use it daily.
2. Last-Hitting is Everything: The number one skill difference between low and high ELO is farming (CS). Missing 10 minions early game is equivalent to giving away a kill. Practice CSing in Practice Tool until you can get 80+ CS by 10 minutes.
3. Don’t Play Too Many Champions: Switching between 5+ champions each game slows learning. Pick 2–3 champions per role and spam them. You’ll learn matchups faster and climb more easily.
4. Minimap Awareness: Many new players tunnel-vision on their character. Glancing at the minimap every 5 seconds (or after every CS) helps you avoid ganks. If you see the enemy jungler elsewhere, you can play aggressive.
5. Mute Toxic Players Immediately: Engaging with flamers distracts you and tilts your team. Just mute them. Your mental state influences your performance more than any chat argument.
6. Free Rewards: Each week, check the Missions tab for free hextech chests, keys, and event tokens. Also, leveling up gives champion capsules. Don’t let daily missions expire unclaimed.
7. Champion Shards vs. Blue Essence: When you get a champion shard, you can either activate it (for a discounted BE cost) or disenchant it (for a portion of BE). Activating a shard costs less than buying the champion directly from the shop — always use shards to unlock champions you want.
8. Ranked Roles: You can set your main and secondary roles separately for ranked. If you select Mid/Top but actually hate top lane, you will sometimes be placed top. Be honest about your comfort.
9. Buy Wards: Control Wards (pink wards) cost 75 gold and provide stealth detection. They are the cheapest source of map control. No excuses — buy one on every back after first item.
10. Don’t Chase Kills: Killing the enemy is only good if it leads to an objective (tower, dragon, Baron). Chasing deep into the enemy jungle often results in a death for your team. Play for objectives, not KDA.

Remember: League of Legends is a marathon, not a sprint. Focus on improving your own gameplay, and the rank will follow. Good luck on the Rift!

All Game Items
All Game Items
Introduction
In League of Legends, "items" refer to the equipment purchased with gold during a match to enhance your champion’s stats, abilities, and utility. There are over 200 items in the current game, ranging from small components to full legendary power spikes. This guide covers every major category of items, as well as out-of-game currencies, crafting materials, and collectibles. All information reflects the post-Mythic item system (Season 14+), where no items are designated as Mythic; instead, items are classified as Starter, Basic, Epic, Legendary, and Ornn’s Masterwork upgrades.
1. Starter Items

- W Ability (key W)
- E Ability (key E)
- R Ability (ultimate, key R) – unlocked at levels 6, 11, and 16
- Effect: A permanent buff or triggered effect that requires no manual activation. Examples:
- No level-up required; it scales with champion level or item stats.
- Base damage / utility
- Cooldown (reduced by Ability Haste items/runes)
- Resource cost (mana, energy, rage, health, etc.)
- Range, area of effect, projectile speed
- Scaling (AD, AP, bonus health, etc.)

Leveling Up: You gain a skill point each level (100 max). The R ability can be upgraded at levels 6, 11, 16. Prioritize maxing one ability (usually Q or the primary damage ability) first, then secondary, then the least important. Exceptions exist (e.g., some supports max W first).
Cooldown and Ability Haste: Cooldown reduction has been replaced by Ability Haste (AH). Every 10 AH ≈ 9% cooldown reduction. AH multiplies the base cooldown: `New CD = Base CD * (100 / (100 + AH))`.
#### Ultimate Ability (R)
The most powerful skill, with a long cooldown. Often game-changing (e.g., global teleport, team-wide heal, massive AOE). Upgrading it reduces cooldown and increases damage/utility.

Characters & Roles
Characters & Roles
Overview
League of Legends (LoL) features over 160 unique champions, each with distinct playstyles, abilities, and roles. Champions are categorized by their position (lane) in the standard 5v5 game and by their class (combat archetype). This guide covers every major role and class, including representative champion examples, strengths, weaknesses, playstyle, unlock conditions, recommended builds, and team synergy.
Roles (Positions)
Each role corresponds to a lane or specific map responsibility.
#### 1. Top Lane
- Description: The island lane (top side) typically played by durable melee champions who can survive alone and later split-push or frontline.
- Champion Examples: Garen, Darius, Camille, Ornn, Fiora, Kennen, Aatrox, Shen.
- Strengths: High durability, good sustain, strong dueling; can become unkillable or deal massive damage if fed.
- Weaknesses: Vulnerable to ganks if pushed; many top laners lack mobility and can be kited; weak early versus ranged.
- Playstyle: Farm safely early, trade when abilities are off cooldown, manage wave control, teleport to help other lanes, split-push in mid-late game or group for teamfights are typical.
- Unlock Conditions: All top lane champions can be purchased with Blue Essence (BE) (earned by playing) or Riot Points (RP) (premium currency). New champions cost 7800 BE for the first two weeks, then drop to 6300 BE, and eventually to 1350 BE. Free weekly rotation includes 10–15 champions across all roles.
- Recommended Items (General): Tank top: Sunfire Aegis, Thornmail, Spirit Visage. Bruiser top: Stridebreaker, Black Cleaver, Sterak's Gage. AP top: Riftmaker, Demonic Embrace.
- Team Synergy: Pairs well with engage supports and high-damage junglers. A split-pushing top laner draws pressure while team takes objectives elsewhere. Tank tops provide peel and engage.
- Description: Roaming role that clears monster camps in the jungle, secures neutral objectives (Dragon, Baron, Rift Herald), and ganks lanes to create advantages. No lane farming.
- Champion Examples: Lee Sin, Elise, Vi, Kha'Zix, Amumu, Master Yi, Graves, Hecarim.
- Strengths: Map presence, objective control, surprise ganks, snowball potential.
- Weaknesses: Can fall behind if counter-jungled or if ganks fail; reliant on lanes to follow up; vulnerable to invaders early.
- Playstyle: Efficient camp clearing, track enemy jungler, choose gank angles, set up vision, secure scuttles, and coordinate neutral objectives. Junglers take the Smite summoner spell.
- Unlock Conditions: Same as all champions. The role itself is available from account level 10 (ranked requires level 30 and 20 champions owned).
- Recommended Items: Standard mythic: Trinity Force (AD fighters), Sunfire Aegis (tanks), Night Harvester (AP assassins). Build jungle item (now replaced by standard mythics without dedicated jungle item) and always upgrade Smite to red or blue smite.
- Team Synergy: Jungle is the primary playmaker. Strong synergy with laners who have crowd control (CC) to secure ganks. A tank jungler pairs well with immobile carries; a carry jungler needs peel from supports.
- Description: Center of the map, often mages, assassins, or skirmishers. Mid laners have access to both side lanes and objectives.
- Champion Examples: Ahri, Yasuo, Orianna, Zed, Lux, Syndra, LeBlanc, Galio.
- Strengths: High burst damage, wave clear, roaming potential; can easily influence other lanes.
- Weaknesses: Squishy (mages and assassins), vulnerable to CC and ganks; some champions have poor wave clear early.
- Playstyle: Secure farm, control lane priority, look for roams to top or bot, assist jungler on scuttles, provide damage in teamfights; assassins focus on picking off squishies.
- Unlock Conditions: Same as above.
- Recommended Items: Mages: Luden's Tempest, Seraph's Embrace, Zhonya's Hourglass. Assassins: Duskblade of Draktharr (AD), Hextech Rocketbelt (AP). Skirmishers: Yone – Immortal Shieldbow.
- Team Synergy: Mid works well with jungler for 2v2 skirmishes. Control mages require peel; assassins need engage from support or top to distract enemies. A roaming mid can help bot lane snowball.
- Description: Two players on bot lane: the carry (ADC) and support. ADC deals sustained physical damage from range, scales with items.
- Champion Examples: Jinx, Kai'Sa, Ashe, Vayne, Jhin, Miss Fortune, Ezreal, Aphelios.
- Strengths: Highest late-game consistent damage, tower pushing, objective shredding.
- Weaknesses: Extremely squishy, immobile (except few), requires protection and gold to scale; weak early game.
- Playstyle: Farm safely, harass with auto attacks and abilities, avoid getting caught, attack from the backline in teamfights, kite enemies. ADC takes Flash and Heal typically.
- Unlock Conditions: Same.
- Recommended Items: Mythic: Kraken Slayer (extra damage vs tanks), Galeforce (mobility), Immortal Shieldbow (defense). Legendary: Infinity Edge, Phantom Dancer, Lord Dominik's Regards. Build boots: Berserker's Greaves.
- Team Synergy: ADC needs a support to peel (e.g., Lulu, Thresh) or engage (Leona) to set up kills. Tanks and frontliners protect ADC; mages can provide area control. The support's job is to keep ADC alive and enable damage.
- Description: Bot lane partner of ADC. Supports provide utility: healing, shielding, crowd control, vision, and engage or disengage. They do not farm minions (except with relic shield).
- Champion Examples: Thresh, Leona, Lulu, Janna, Nami, Blitzcrank, Pyke, Yuumi.
- Strengths: Enable teammates, control vision, set up kills, peel for carries.
- Weaknesses: Low damage (except some), squishy if caught out, gold income limited (rely on support item gold generation).
- Playstyle: Roam for vision control, ward objectives, protect ADC in lane, look for engages (hook supports) or sustain (enchanters), track enemy jungler, coordinate with team. Support item upgrades provide wards.
- Unlock Conditions: Same.
- Recommended Items: Support mythic: Shurelya's Battlesong (speed), Locket of the Iron Solari (shield), Moonstone Renewer (healing). Legendary: Zeke's Convergence, Knight's Vow, Redemption. Control Wards always.
- Team Synergy: Synergy between support and ADC is critical. An engage support (Leona) works well with aggressive ADCs (Draven). An enchanter (Lulu) protects hypercarries (Kog'Maw). Supports also enable jungler invades and roams.
- Role: Absorb damage, initiate fights, provide CC.
- Examples: Malphite, Leona, Ornn, Sion, Maokai, Rammus.
- Strengths: Very durable, hard CC, can engage or peel.
- Weaknesses: Low damage, reliant on teammates for kills, can be kited.
- Playstyle: Frontline, use CC to lock down key targets, soak abilities.
- Items: Sunfire Aegis, Thornmail, Force of Nature, Gargoyle Stoneplate.
- Synergy: Works well with dive champions (assassins) and carries that need peel.
- Role: Melee damage dealer with moderate durability. Duelists or divers.
- Examples: Darius, Aatrox, Jax, Fiora, Riven, Irelia, Sett.
- Strengths: High sustained damage, strong dueling, can split-push.
- Weaknesses: Can be bursted if not ahead, kited by mobile opponents.
- Playstyle: Jump on enemy backline, sustain with lifesteal, outplay with mobility.
- Items: Stridebreaker, Divine Sunderer, Black Cleaver, Sterak's Gage.
- Synergy: Need engage from support/tank; pair with healer for dive.
- Role: Ability-based damage, often AOE or burst.
- Examples: Syndra, Orianna, Viktor, Veigar, Lux, Anivia, Ziggs.
- Strengths: Wave clear, poke, zone control, high burst.
- Weaknesses: Squishy, skillshot-dependent, vulnerable to assassins.
- Playstyle: Stay at range, combo spells, control zone, provide CC.
- Items: Luden's Tempest, Liandry's Anguish, Zhonya's Hourglass, Rabadon's Deathcap.
- Synergy: Need peel from tanks/supports; work well with engage (place spells on locked down enemies).
- Role: High mobility, burst damage, pick off isolated squishies.
- Examples: Zed, Talon, Katarina, Akali, LeBlanc, Kha'Zix (also jungle).
- Strengths: Incredible burst, snowball potential, outplay mobility.
- Weaknesses: Very squishy, no sustained damage, countered by hard CC and Zhonya's.
- Playstyle: Roam, flank, delete carries, reset if possible (Katarina).
- Items: AD: Prowler's Claw, Duskblade, Youmuu's Ghostblade. AP: Hextech Rocketbelt, Lich Bane.
- Synergy: Need distraction from tanks; good with engage supports (Thresh, Leona) to isolate targets.
- Role: Ranged auto-attack-based damage dealer. Already covered under Bot Lane role.
- Examples: Jinx, Caitlyn, Vayne, Ashe, Kai'Sa, Ezreal.
- Strengths/Weaknesses: See ADC role.
- Items: Kraken Slayer, Infinity Edge, Runaan's Hurricane.
- Role: Healing, shielding, buffing allies; usually support.
- Examples: Lulu, Soraka, Sona, Janna, Yuumi, Nami, Seraphine.
- Strengths: Sustain, peel, speed boosts, can turn fights.
- Weaknesses: Squishy, low burst, reliant on teammates.
- Playstyle: Stay behind allies, use abilities to heal/shield, CC enemies if possible.
- Items: Moonstone Renewer, Redemption, Ardent Censer, Staff of Flowing Water.
- Synergy: Ideal with hypercarries (Kog'Maw, Jinx) that benefit from attack speed or damage boosts.
- Role: Initiate fights with CC hooks or binds, pick enemies.
- Examples: Blitzcrank, Thresh, Pyke, Morgana, Lux (also mage).
- Strengths: High pick potential, area denial (Thresh lantern), vision control.
- Weaknesses: Missed abilities = long cooldown, can be punished when abilities down.
- Playstyle: Look for hooks, pressure lane, roam with jungler.
- Items: Shurelya's Battlesong, Zeke's Convergence, Knight's Vow.
- Synergy: Works with burst ADCs (Draven, Jhin) who can follow up quickly. Good with junglers that have follow-up CC.
- Role: Champions with very unique mechanics that don't fit neatly elsewhere.
- Examples: Teemo (shroom stealth, DOT), Singed (run around, poison), Heimerdinger (turrets), Ivern (jungle with unique camps), Bard (collect chimes, tunnel).
- Strengths: Unpredictable, can counter many matchups with bizarre strategies.
- Weaknesses: Often weaker in standard team composition, niche.
- Playstyle: Highly dependent on champion; often split-pushing or area denial.
- Items: Varies widely.
- Synergy: Difficult to generalize; often require team to play around them.
- Blue Essence (BE): Earned by leveling up, disenchanting champion shards, or missions. Used to permanently unlock champions. Costs: Newest champions = 7800 BE, reduced to 6300 BE after two weeks, then 4800, 3150, 1350, 450 BE in later patches.
- Riot Points (RP): Premium currency bought with real money. Can instantly unlock any champion.
- Loot & Shards: Champion shards from hextech chests can be permanently unlocked with BE or turned into blue essence.
- Free Rotation: 10-15 champions change weekly; playable for free during the week.
- Event Passes: Sometimes provide champion unlock tokens.
- Build role-appropriate mythic item first (or mythic component).
- Adapt to enemy team: Build armor vs AD, magic resist vs AP.
- Include a Guardian Angel/Zhonya's if you're a carry getting focused.
- Supports: Build support item (Spellthief's, Relic Shield) and then mythic, boots, control wards.
- Always buy boots (almost all champions need Tier 2 boots, usually Lucidity, Sorcerer's, Berserker's, or Plated Steelcaps).
- For ADCs: Infinity Edge is core after mythic.
- For AP mages: Void Staff or Morellonomicon as needed.
- Balanced team composition includes: 1 Tank (or 2), 1-2 Damage Carries, 1 Support, 1 Controller (mage or assassin).
- Example comp: Top tank (Ornn), Jungle fighter (Lee Sin), Mid control mage (Orianna), ADC hypercarry (Jinx), Support enchanter (Lulu).
- Synergy strategies:
#### 2. Jungle
#### 3. Mid Lane
#### 4. Bottom Lane – ADC (Attack Damage Carry)
#### 5. Support

League of Legends Cheats & Secrets Guide
Official Cheat Codes: None
League of Legends is an online competitive game with robust kernel-level anti-cheat (Vanguard) that strictly prohibits any form of cheating. There are no official cheat codes, console commands, or unlockable cheat modes. Any third-party software claiming to provide cheats is a violation of Riot Games’ Terms of Service and will result in a permanent ban. This guide focuses on legitimate hidden content, Easter eggs, and developer-intended secrets that enhance the lore and gameplay experience.
Developer-Intended Secrets & Easter Eggs
#### 1. Champion-Specific Voice Line Interactions
Riot Games has coded hundreds of unique voice lines that trigger when champions from the same lore universe meet on the Rift. These are not documented in any official tooltip, making them a delightful discovery for lore enthusiasts.
- Riven vs. Yasuo: When Riven kills Yasuo, she may say “No more running, Yasuo.” Conversely, Yasuo may say to Riven, “Your sword is heavy, I know the weight.”
- Kindred vs. Garen: If Kindred (Lamb and Wolf) kills Garen, Lamb might whisper, “Every noble life ends the same, Garen.”
- Maokai vs. Soraka: Maokai sometimes says, “Your healing is an insult to the rot,” when near Soraka.
- Thresh vs. Senna: Constant bickering due to their shared history. Thresh’s hook on Senna triggers special banter.
- Baron Nashor’s Idle Animation: If Baron Nashor is untouched for a long period, he will yawn, showing a tiny version of himself inside his mouth. This is a visual joke often missed.
- Dragon Pit Noises: Each elemental dragon has unique ambient sounds. The Infernal Dragon breathes fire audibly from outside the pit, while the Cloud Dragon has a windy sound.
- Idle Champion Jokes: If a champion stands perfectly still for over 10 seconds, they may trigger a special “idle” animation (e.g., Lux plays with her wand, Jinx juggles grenades).
- Poro Snax & the Giant Poro: In ARAM, you can purchase “Poro Snax” from the item shop for 0 gold. Feed them to the poros that roam the map. After feeding a poro 10-15 times, it will morph into a Giant Poro that follows you and can be ridden for a short dash. No other game mode has this.
- The Frozen Bridge: Certain champion abilities (e.g., Anivia wall) create cracks in the ice bridge, a purely cosmetic effect.
- Secret Poro Emote: If you feed a poro while your champion is standing near the shopkeeper, the poro will occasionally do a “happy” squeak.
- Click the Minion: On the League of Legends home screen (client), a small minion is present near the “Play” button. Click it repeatedly to make it do a funny dance and squeak.
- Poro in the Store: In the in-client store, there is a tiny poro icon near the search bar. Clicking it makes a squeaking sound and the poro bounces.
- The “?” Emote: Typing “?” in chat often triggers the “Missing” emote, but if you spam “?” rapidly (e.g., 5 times in one second), the client plays a special “question mark explosion” animation in the chat feed.
- Pulsefire Ezreal: When he uses his ultimate (Trueshot Barrage), there is a chance for a voice line referencing “Time travel” – only audible if he has his Chrono Shift skin equipped alongside the regular skin? Actually, Pulsefire Ezreal has a special recall animation that shows a “Level Up” HUD, mimicking a video game.
- Star Guardian Jinx: Her passive (Get Excited!) makes her mount a magical “Star Guardian” projectile when she gets a kill – the animation differs between normal form and star changer form.
- Dark Star Cho’Gath: When he kills a large monster (Baron, Dragon), the corpse is consumed with a black hole effect and a unique sound.
- Nemesis Draft: In 2014, Riot temporarily released a mode where the enemy team chooses your champion. This mode was never repeated and is now considered a lost Easter egg. It occasionally reappears in custom games via a game client bug, but is not officially supported.
> Tip: To hear these, play the corresponding champions in a game. The triggers often depend on proximity, combat, kill participation, or ability usage.
#### 2. Summoner’s Rift Easter Eggs
#### 3. Howling Abyss (ARAM) Secrets
#### 4. Client & Menu Easter Eggs
#### 5. Hidden Interactions with Skins
#### 6. Hidden Game Modes (Rotational Secrets)
While rotating game modes like URF (Ultra Rapid Fire), One for All, and Nexus Blitz are officially announced, their release dates and rotations are often considered a “secret” until the patch notes. However, there is one true hidden mode:
#### 7. The “Unlock the Vault” Easter Egg
In the Legends of Runeterra (Riot’s card game) there is a known secret code to unlock a card back. However, no such code exists for League of Legends. Some websites falsely promise secret skin codes – these are scams.
Summary Table of Easter Eggs
| Easter Egg | Location | How to Trigger |
|---|---|---|

Important Note on Exploits
