⚠️ Warnings & Common Pitfalls
- Don't hoard Darkness early: Darkness is used to unlock Mirror of Night talents, but you will eventually have an excess. Spend it freely to improve your build potential. There is no downside to buying talents—you can reassign them later without cost.
- Avoid selling everything for gold: In the Temple of Styx, you can sell boons and upgrades for gold. Only sell if you absolutely need more money for a specific item. A strong build is better than a few extra coins.
- Don't ignore the Pact of Punishment: Once you unlock the Pact (after your first clear), you can increase difficulty to earn more resources (Titan Blood, Ambrosia). But be careful: pacts stack. Start with only one or two conditions (e.g., Hard Labor 1, Jury Summons 1) to ease in.
- Gems vs. Keys: Prioritize Keys early: Keys are used to unlock new weapons, rooms, and the Fated List of Minor Prophecies. Gems are for cosmetic upgrades and some contractor projects. In early runs, always choose Key rooms over Gem rooms unless a specific Gem upgrade is urgent.
- Do not skip the Chaos Trials (Erebus gates): The golden gate at the end of Tartarus offers a trial where you take a penalty for a reward with no boons. Complete these to unlock Chaos boons, which are extremely powerful. The penalty is temporary and manageable.
- Beware of the 'Darkness is useless' trap: Darkness is vital for Mirror upgrades, but after maxing the Mirror, it becomes less critical. However, the House Contractor offers some Darkness purchases for completion. Don't completely ignore it, but don't stress after maxing.
- Don't over-invest in Daedalus Hammers: They are great but only 2-3 per run. If you get one early, it's fine; if you pass one, you might not see another. But if you have a weak build, it's better to take a God boon. Hammers are not mandatory to win.
