Overview


Pokémon GO is a mobile augmented reality game developed by Niantic. It is officially available only on iOS (iPhone/iPad) and Android devices. There is no official PC, Steam, Epic, PlayStation, Xbox, or Switch version. Any claims of such are scams or emulators that violate Terms of Service.

  • Minimum: Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) or later, 2GB RAM, ARM64 CPU.

  • Recommended: Android 8.0+, 4GB RAM, GPS + GLONASS, Gyroscope for AR.

  • Note: Must support Google Play Services and have proper sensors.


  • Storage Space


  • Download size: ~150-200 MB (varies by device/OS).

  • After installation + data: Can grow to 1-2 GB (due to assets and updates). Ensure at least 2 GB free space.


  • Account Requirements


  • Required: A Pokémon Trainer Club account OR a Google account OR Facebook account OR Apple ID (iOS). You must be 13+ (or age of digital consent in your region).

  • No purchase needed, but optional in-app purchases.


  • Step-by-Step Installation


    iOS


    1. Open App Store.
    2. Tap search, type "Pokémon GO".
    3. Locate the official app by Niantic, Inc. (blue app icon with a Poké Ball).
    4. Tap "Get" then install via Face/Touch ID or Apple ID password.
    5. Wait for download and installation.
    6. Tap "Open" to launch.

    Android (Google Play)


    1. Open Google Play Store.
    2. Search "Pokémon GO".
    3. Tap on official app by Niantic, Inc.
    4. Tap "Install".
    5. Accept permissions (location, camera, storage as needed).
    6. Wait for download and installation.
    7. Tap "Open".

    Android (Samsung Galaxy Store)


    Similar process; use Galaxy Store search and install.

    First Launch Setup


    1. Tap "Sign Up" or "Log In". Use an account method.
    2. Accept Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
    3. Allow location permissions (required for gameplay).
    4. Allow camera permission (for AR, optional but recommended).
    5. Allow notifications (optional).
    6. Create or customize your avatar.
    7. Complete tutorial (catch starter Pokémon, explore nearby PokéStops).
    8. Game will download additional assets (may take a few minutes on WiFi).

    Common Installation Errors & Fixes


    "Device not compatible"


  • Check OS version and minimum requirements.

  • For Android: device may lack required sensors or be blacklisted (e.g., rooted devices). Unroot or use a compatible device.

  • For iOS: update iOS to latest supported version.


  • "Download failed" or "Unable to install"


  • Clear cache of App Store/Play Store.

  • Restart device.

  • Ensure enough free storage.

  • Check internet connection (switch from Wi-Fi to mobile data or vice versa).

  • For Android: go to Settings > Apps > Google Play Store > clear data & cache.


  • "App not installed" (Android)


  • Enable "Install from unknown sources" temporarily if sideloading, but official install via Play Store avoids this.

  • If using Play Store, may need to uninstall updates and retry.


  • "Login error" or "Unable to authenticate"


  • Ensure account credentials are correct.

  • Check server status (Niantic's service may be down).

  • Try a different login method.

  • For Google login: ensure Google Play Services is up-to-date.


  • "GPS signal not found"


  • Enable high-accuracy GPS in device settings.

  • Ensure you are outdoors or have clear sky view.

  • Restart the app or device.


  • Post-Install Verification


  • Launch the app and try to catch a nearby Pokémon.

  • Check that the map loads with PokéStops and Gyms.

  • Verify AR+ feature works (if supported).

  • Confirm that you can send/receive gifts (requires friends, but test with a friend).

  • Check that battery usage is acceptable; if excessive, adjust settings (disable AR, reduce refresh rate).

  • Ensure the app updates properly via official stores.


  • Notes on Alternative Platforms


  • PC/Steam/Epic: No official client. Emulators like BlueStacks may work but violate ToS and risk account ban. Not recommended.

  • PlayStation, Xbox, Switch: No version exists. Pokémon GO is not available on any console.

  • Apple Watch: Companion app for step tracking, but not full game.
