    4. Account Requirements

You must create a free Path of Exile account to play.

  • PC users: Create an account at [pathofexile.com/register](https://www.pathofexile.com/register) or use your Steam/Epic account (they will auto-link).

  • PlayStation/Xbox users: The game uses your PSN or Xbox Live account. You can link a PoE account for cross-platform progression (only within same platform family, not cross-save with PC).

> Important: Linked accounts allow you to access your PoE profile, stash, and purchases across all PCs but NOT between console and PC.

---

5. First Launch Setup

After installation, launch the game. For PC clients, a patching screen appears. Wait for it to check files. Then:

1. Login Screen: Enter your PoE account credentials (or link Steam/Epic).
2. Select Gateway: Choose a server region closest to you (e.g., Washington DC, London, Sydney).
3. Graphics Settings: The game auto-detects settings. For best performance on low-end PCs:
- Preset: Low or check Adaptive Resolution.
- Disable Dynamic Resolution if unstable.
- Turn Shadows and Global Illumination off.
4. Sound and UI: Adjust volume and key bindings as needed.
5. Create or Select Character: You must create at least one character to play.

7. Post-Installation Verification

After successful installation, verify the game works correctly:

1. File Integrity Check (PC):
- Standalone: Run `PathOfExile.exe` with `--verify` flag (create a shortcut with `--verify` at end of target).
- Steam: Right-click the game > Properties > Local Files > Verify integrity of game files.
- Epic: In library, click three dots on PoE > Verify.
2. Launch Game: You should see the login screen. If you see only a black window, try running in windowed mode (`-windowed` launch flag).
3. Check Version: After login, the main menu shows the current patch version (e.g., 3.23.0). Compare with [official forums](https://www.pathofexile.com/forum) to ensure you're up-to-date.
4. Performance Test: Create a level 1 character and run around the first area (The Twilight Strand). Expected FPS on recommended hardware: 60+ fps at 1080p high.

8. Additional Tips

  • SSD is mandatory for comfortable play; HDDs cause long load times and texture popping.

  • Disable Discord overlay or other overlays that might cause crashes.

  • For laptop users: Ensure the game runs on your dedicated GPU (not integrated graphics). Set high performance in GPU control panel.

  • Cross-platform purchases are NOT shared between PC and consoles. Microtransactions are platform-specific.

If you follow these instructions, you should be able to download and install Path of Exile without issues. Enjoy the grind in Wraeclast!
