Important Notes for Valheim
This section covers critical warnings, common pitfalls, irreversible decisions, missable content, difficulty spikes, grind traps, multiplayer etiquette, save management, and things players often wish they knew sooner. Reading this can save you hours of frustration.
⚠️ Warnings & Pitfalls
- Do not build your main base on the spawn island’s Meadows directly next to the sacrificial stones. While convenient, that area has no access to the sea for later ships. You’ll need to relocate or build a secondary port. Build near a coast with gentle slope for a dock.
- Never go into the Swamp biome without a rested bonus, poison resistance mead, and preferably a finewood bow. The Swamp is the first major difficulty spike. Wet debuff + poison + draugr archers can kill you in seconds.
- Do not sail into the Plains or Mistlands unprepared. A single deathsquito (Plains) can kill you even in iron armor. Always scout from a distance, mark biome borders on your map.
- Do not drop or destroy unique crafting stations. Forge, Workbench, Cauldron, Stonecutter, etc. can be rebuilt, but the level 2-4 upgrades require rare materials like iron, yggdrasil wood, etc. However, you can dismantle them with a hammer to get materials back.
- Beware of trolls early game. They can destroy block walls in a few hits. Build palisade walls and kite them. A troll in copper/tin age can crush your base.
- Do not eat all your best food before a boss fight. Save high-tier foods for bosses. Use lower-tier foods for exploring. Food gives both health and stamina; the best food is usually a mix of health and stamina foods.
