Beginner Tips (Town Hall 1–7)
- Don't rush your Town Hall. Upgrade all buildings (especially defensive ones) before moving up. Rushing leads to weak defenses and painful loot penalties.
- Join a clan early. Clan Castle troops can save your base and boost your attacks. Request strong troops like Dragons or Wizards.
- Always keep your builders busy. Having idle builders wastes time. Plan upgrades so that you always have at least one builder working.
- Use your daily star bonus. Each day you can get bonus loot by earning 5 stars in multiplayer battles. Prioritize this.
- Farm with cheap armies. Early on, use Barch (Barbarians + Archers) or Goblin-based armies to loot resources quickly without spending dark elixir.
- Upgrade your laboratory constantly. Troop upgrades are as important as defensive ones. Focus on the troops you use most.
- Never empty your storages. Keep some resources in the treasury (from Clan Games) to avoid losing everything in raids.
- Use the 'Next' button wisely. Skip bases that don't have enough loot. Spend gold to search for profitable targets.
- Protect your Town Hall. Early on, put it inside your walls. Later, consider putting it outside to get a shield when it's destroyed.
- Complete achievements. They grant gems, which can unlock builder huts or speed up upgrades.
- Learn the 'Queen Walk'. Unlock the Archer Queen at TH9 and practice using healers to keep her alive while she destroys key defenses.
- Master funneling. Clear unnecessary buildings on the flanks so your main army moves toward the core. Use a few wizards or barbarians to create a funnel.
- Use 'Lavaloon' attacks. Lava Hounds tank for Balloons. It is a top strategy at TH9–10. Combine with Rage spells for extra speed.
- Farm with 'GiWiVa'. Giants, Wizards, and Valkyries – a solid mid-game farming army that deals with splash damage.
- Upgrade your spell factory early. Spells win battles. Focus on Lightning, Rage, Heal, and later Freeze.
- Don't neglect Clan Castle. Always upgrade it to max for your TH level. Having a strong donated troop (like a Pekka or Dragon) can turn a loss into a win.
- Plan your base layout. Use an 'internet base' (copy a proven design). Key: centralize your Town Hall, splash defenses (Mortars, Wizard Towers), and Clan Castle.
- Use the 'Tesla' to surprise attackers. Hidden Teslas are powerful when placed near the core or in compartments.
- Save gems for builder huts. The fifth builder costs 2,000 gems. Only spend gems on builder huts and occasional training boosts.
- Participate in Clan War League (CWL). This gives you bonus medals to buy hammers, which can instantly upgrade any building (including walls).
- Upgrade your barracks to unlock new troops. For example, unlock the Dark Barracks for Golems at TH8 and Witch at TH9.
- Use the 'Farming' approach in wars. When you're not in war, drop trophies to around Gold 3 – Crystal 3 to find easy loot.
- Perfect the 'Yeti Smash'. At TH12+, Yetis + Bat Spells can clear entire bases. Use the Yeti's mini yetis to trigger traps.
- Learn 'Super Troops'. At TH11+, you can boost certain troops for a limited time (e.g., Super Barbarians, Super Wizards). They require dark elixir to activate and are extremely powerful.
- Use 'Siege Machines'. Unlock the Workshop at TH12. The Wall Wrecker breaks into the core, Stone Slammer targets defenses, and Log Launcher is great for funneling.
- Master 'Edrag Loons'. Electro Dragons with Rage and Freeze spells. Best used in a line to chain lightning between buildings.
- Optimize your 'Hero Equipment'. At TH8 (Barbarian King), TH9 (Archer Queen), TH11 (Grand Warden), and TH14 (Royal Champion). Upgrade their abilities and use equipment like the Earth Boots for King or Eternal Tome for Warden.
- Use 'Warden Walk'. The Grand Warden (in air mode) can tank and destroy defenses when paired with healers. Very effective at TH12+.
- Scout before every attack. Check for Clan Castle troops, bomb towers, and hidden teslas. Use a poison spell or a few minions to lure and kill CC troops.
- Wall management. Use gold for walls last. Prioritize defenses, then heroes, then walls. But at TH11+, walls become crucial. Use a farming army to grind for them.
- Spell efficiency. Bring at least 1 Freeze spell to handle Inferno Towers (single or multi) and Eagle Artillery. Use Heal for splash damage areas.
- Use 'Bat Spells' correctly. They are fragile. First, disable splash damage defenses (Wizard Towers, Bomb Towers) with Freeze or Rage.
- Donate in clan wars. Always give the requested troops. Don't donate goblins unless asked.
- Keep heroes upgrading non-stop. Heroes are the backbone of any attack. Prioritize them over defensive upgrades. Use books of heroes from Clan Games.
- Max your 'Clan Games' each month. This gives you books, runes, and potions that accelerate progress.
- Use 'Power Potions' wisely. They boost your troops to max level for your TH. Use them for war attacks if your lab is behind.
- Know the 'Attack Orders'. For example: against a base with heavy single-target defenses, use massed swarms like Minions or Bowlers. Against splash, use tanks.
- Always bring a clean-up army. After your main force clears the base, use a few archers or minions to pick off remaining buildings (or cheap units like goblins).
- Use 'Lightning spells' on high-value targets. At TH7-8, zap an Air Defense before using Dragons. At TH9+, use Lightning+Earthquake to destroy a key defense.
- Deploy heroes wisely. Barbarian King is a tank, Archer Queen is a ranged killer. Grand Warden (ground mode) protects nearby troops with an aura. Royal Champion jumps over walls.
- Time your spells. Don't drop all spells at once. Use Heal when troops are in the splash area, Rage when they enter the core.
- Use 'Queen Charge'. Deploy the Archer Queen with 4-5 healers. She'll walk through a section of the base, taking out defenses. Then deploy the main army from the opposite side.
- Learn 'Funneling'. Before deploying the main force, drop a few troops at the edges to clear outer buildings. This prevents the main army from walking around the base.
- 'Mass Dragons' at TH7-8. Simple and effective. Bring max Lightning spells in your Clan Castle to take out an Air Defense. Drop dragons in a line after clearing the edges.
- 'Hog Riders' are dangerous but strong. Use them with Heal spells. They target defenses, but beware of Giant Bombs. Test for traps with a few hogs first.
- 'LavaLoon' execution. Send Lava Hounds first to absorb damage from Air Defenses. Then deploy Balloons behind them. Use Rage spells on the core to speed up Balloons.
- 'Pekka Smash'. Pekkas are slow but tanky. Use them with Bowlers and a Jump spell to break into the base. Heal them in the core.
- 'Suicide King' trick. Drop the Barbarian King with Rage to take out a key defense like an Inferno Tower, then recall him with the Royal Gem ability.
- Use 'Clone spells' for mass troops. Clone a group of Bowlers or Wizards for extra firepower. Especially effective in the core.
- 'Freeze' the Eagle Artillery. The Eagle Artillery fires in volleys. Freeze it right as it targets your main army to save them from massive damage.
- 'Poison' for CC. A level 5+ Poison spell kills enemy Clan Castle troops. Combine with a few archers to lure them out.
- Emergency 'Jump' with Hogs. If hogs get stuck on walls, a Jump spell can let them bypass and continue destroying defenses.
- Centralize key defenses. Town Hall (for TH12+ where it becomes a weapon), Inferno Towers (TH10+), Eagle Artillery (TH11+), and Scattershots (TH13+) should be in the core.
- Separate compartments. Each compartment slows down ground attackers. Use walls to create sections that force the AI to break through multiple layers.
- Place Mortars and Wizard Towers behind walls. They have splash damage and can kill swarms. Protect them from tanks.
- Use 'Tesla farms'. Cluster Hidden Teslas near the core – they surprise attackers and deal high DPS.
- Set traps intelligently. Giant Bombs one tile next to walls catch hogs. Air Bombs in clusters kill balloons. Spring traps near funnel points.
- Centralize your Clan Castle. Troops inside can support multiple compartments. Lure is harder if the castle is deep.
- Design for anti-XXX. There are anti-3 star bases (like 'Crows' for TH9) and anti-2 star bases. Use a layout that counters common attack strategies for your TH.
- Use 'Builder Base' defenses sparingly. In home village, don't copy Builder Base layouts – they are different.
- Upgrade defenses in order of importance. At each TH: first splash defenses (Mortar, Wizard Tower), then single-target (Cannon, Archer Tower), then Tesla, then traps. Heroes always first.
- Keep one builder free for walls? No. Use all builders for permanent upgrades. Walls are a resource sink – do them when all builders are busy.
- Use 'Green grass' to hide traps. Traps blend with grass. Don't put them in obvious spots like corners.
- Anti-Dragon bases require Air Sweepers. Place Air Sweepers such that they push air units away from key defenses. Upgrade them early.
- For TH13+ use 'Scatter' and 'Monolith'. These new defenses are extremely powerful. Protect them with walls and point defenses.
- Use 'Building upgrades' strategically. If you don't plan to attack for a while, put your Town Hall outside to get a shield and protect resources.
- Always collect from collectors. Even if you're maxed, loot from collectors adds up. Set timers for regular collection.
- Don't spend gems on resources. Gems are best for builder huts and boosting. Never use gems to finish upgrades or buy loot.
- Use the 'Treasury'. Clan Games rewards go to the Treasury, which is safe from attacks. Collect only when you need resources.
- Borrow from the 'Trader'. The Trader (at TH7+) offers resources for gems or elixir. Only buy if heavily discounted and essential.
- Farm in the right league. Gold 3 to Crystal 3 is best for loot. Higher leagues have dead bases (inactive players) with full collectors.
- Use 'Star Bonus' daily. Even if you're not attacking much, getting 5 stars nets you bonus gold and elixir. On busy days, just one-star a few bases.
- Max your 'Collectors' before TH8? Some experts say yes – they provide passive income. But I prioritize defenses. Upgrade collectors when you have spare resources.
- Don't max everything before upgrading TH. It's okay to skip some walls and traps to move up. But offense (army camps, barracks, spell factories) should be maxed.
- Use 'Runes' from Clan Games. A Rune of Gold/Elixir/Dark Elixir instantly refills your storage. Use it just before a big upgrade to save time.
- Never waste gold on decoration. Those trees and stones are cosmetic. Remove them only if they block building placement.
- Join a clan for 'Clan Capital'. Capital raids grant capital gold and raid medals, which can be spent on resources. Participate actively.
- Be active in clan chat. Build relationships. Leaders promote active members.
- Donate what's requested. max level donations help the clan. If you don't have the troop, ask someone else.
- Participate in war if eligible. Even if you're bad, practice. Use both attacks. Aim for stars.
- Use 'War CC' to support. In war, always request the best troops for your attack (e.g., max Dragons for LavaLoon). Use the 'request once per attack' rule.
- Join a 'Farming Clan'. If you are casual, a farming clan has relaxed war rules and shares loot.
- Don't be a 'clan hooper'. Stick with a clan that matches your activity. Respect the rules.
- Start a 'mini account'. Some players run two accounts to donate to themselves. Useful for war.
- Use 'Clan Games' properly. Always max your personal score (4000 points) to get the best reward tier. Focus on tasks you can complete quickly.
- Communicate in 'Clan Capital'. Coordinate with clanmates to upgrade Capital Hall and districts. Each member should attack in raids.
- Be respectful in global chat? Global chat was removed. Use clan chat and Discord.
- Plan your upgrade path. Use the 'Upgrade Order' spreadsheets online. Prioritize lab, spell factory, army camps, barracks, then defenses.
- Use 'Magic Items' wisely. Books skip upgrade time – use them on the longest upgrades (like heroes). Hammers from CWL can skip both time and resources.
- Boost your training potions. Use a training potion when you have time to grind loot for an hour. It doubles training speed.
- Set a schedule. Spend 10 minutes in the morning to collect and start upgrades. Lunch break: attack twice. Evening: war attacks.
- Don't burn out. Clash is a marathon. It takes years to max. Enjoy the journey.
- Use the 'Clock Tower' in Builder Base. It speeds up events. Use it when you're actively playing.
- Complete 'Season Challenges'. New season every month with free and paid track. The free track gives useful items.
- Upgrade 'Barracks' early. Unlock all troops as soon as possible. Barracks upgrades reduce training time.
- Don't ignore 'Dark Elixir'. It's used for heroes and dark troops. Farm it with goblins or mass miners.
- Remember: Defense doesn't matter much below TH9. Until you have inferno towers, you'll get raided. Focus on offense to get strong attacks.
- 'Queen Walk' at TH9+. Walk the Queen with 5 healers. Use Rage on healers when they get hit by air defenses. Use Freeze on air defenses.
- 'Sui Heros' – deploy all heroes at one point to break a tough compartment. Works well with a Jump spell.
- 'Yeti + Bat' combo. Freeze or zap Wizard Towers, then drop bats. Yeti tanks for them. Very effective against compact bases.
- 'Electro Titan Walk' – similar to Queen Walk but with E-Titan and healers. Extremely powerful at TH15+.
- 'Wall Wrecker with Siege' – put a Wall Wrecker with Valkyries or Bowlers inside. It opens the core and troops pour out.
- 'Log Launcher funnel' – the Log Launcher clears a line of buildings, opening a path for ground troops.
- 'Stone Slammer dive' – if you need to destroy a key defense quickly, send a Stone Slammer with balloons. It takes out splash.
- 'Frozen Arrow' – for Archer Queen at TH14+, the Frozen Arrow ability freezes nearby buildings, helping her survive.
- 'Grand Warden Eternal Tome' – activates to make all troops invincible for a few seconds. Use it when they reach the core.
- 'Royal Champion Seeker Shield' – her shield can be thrown to hit multiple buildings. Use it to take out a cluster of defenses.
- 'Invisibility Spell' – hides troops and buildings. Use it to protect your Queen or a group of attacking troops from defenses.
- Recall Spell – pull back a hero or troop to redeploy elsewhere. Good for saving a Queen who is in danger.
- 'Overgrowth Spell' – (TH15) grows vines that disable buildings in an area. Use it to temporarily neutralize splash defenses before dropping bats.
- 'Spell Storage in Siege' – some siege machines can carry a spell (like the Stone Slammer with a Rage). Plan accordingly.
- 'Traps reset after each attack' – so don't worry about traps being triggered in defense; they reset after battle.
- Always have a plan for your next upgrade. Keep a list of what to upgrade next. This prevents idle builders.
- Watch replays of your defenses. Learn how attackers breached your base. Adjust layout accordingly.
- Watch pro attackers on YouTube. Channels like OneHive, Clash with Eric, and Judo Sloth provide high-level insights.
- Join a community. Reddit's r/ClashOfClans or Discord servers for strategy.
- Have fun! Clash is a game. Don't stress about losing loot. It's all about the long-term progression.
