1. Spells Overview
Spells are the core of combat and interaction. Each spell belongs to a category that determines its primary function. You unlock spells by completing assignments from professors and exploring the world. Spells can be mapped to four hotkeys (on PC: 1-4; on controller: face buttons). You can swap spell sets via the D-pad (up to four sets, for 16 total spell slots).
1.1 Basic Cast (Default Attack)
- Effect: Fires a bolt of magic. Does moderate damage. No cooldown. Can be used infinitely.
- Upgrades: None directly, but talents like "Basic Cast Expertise" increase damage or add a stun effect after a full combo chain (3 consecutive hits).
- Use Case: Primary filler attack; combine with other spells to break shields or finish enemies.
1.2 Control Spells (Purple)
These spells disable, stun, or manipulate enemies.

|---|---|---|---|---|

- Spell upgrades (talents) are essential for higher difficulties. On Normal or Hard, invest in defensive talents first.
- The Room of Requirement talents (Enchanted Loom, Gear Upgrades) are crucial for endgame min-maxing. Rush these if you want to craft powerful gear.
- Broom handling is a separate skill; upgrade your broom at Spintwitches Sporting Needs for better speed and maneuverability.
- Companions in combat use their own AI and spells; you cannot control them directly. However, they do benefit from your curses (e.g., if you curse an enemy, companion attacks deal more damage).
- Cooldowns listed are base values; gear with cooldown reduction traits can lower them significantly.
Usage: Use Ancient Magic Throw to interrupt enemy attacks, break shields, or deal burst damage. Save finishers for strong enemies to avoid prolonged fights. Ancient Magic also increases damage taken by enemies hit (debuff).
