6. Post‑Install Verification

After installation, confirm everything is ready:

PC (Steam/Epic)

  • Check your game library: the game should have no update pending.

  • Launch the game; if you see the Avalanche Software logo, installation succeeded.

  • Optional: run a benchmark (in settings) to ensure stable FPS.

  • PlayStation

  • From home screen, highlight the game icon → press OptionsCheck for Update.

  • Launch the game; you should see the “Compiling Shaders” screen on first boot.

  • Xbox

  • Press Xbox button → My games & apps → find Hogwarts Legacy → select Manage game and add‑ons to verify all files installed (should be ~85 GB).

  • Launch game; expect the shader compilation on first run.

  • Nintendo Switch

  • From home screen, launch the game. You must be online. The cloud client will run a connection test. If successful, the game loads. If you see an error about poor internet, move closer to your router or use a wired connection.

    7. Storage Management Tips

  • PC: Use an SSD for faster load times (especially for the open world). Move the game via Steam (Properties → Installed Files → Move Install Folder) if needed.

  • Console: For PS5 / Xbox Series X|S, install to internal SSD. For PS4 / Xbox One, external USB 3.0 HDD works, but expect longer loads.

  • Nintendo Switch: Use a high‑speed microSD card (UHS‑I, U3 class) for the download client. The game itself runs from cloud servers.

  • ---

    8. Additional Recommendations

  • Pre‑load: If you pre‑ordered, the download was available days before launch. Post‑launch, a day‑one patch (typically ~5–15 GB) may download automatically.

  • Cross‑save: Not available between platforms. Your progress stays on the platform where you played.

  • Backup saves: PC saves are in `%LOCALAPPDATA%\Hogwarts Legacy\Saved\SaveGames` — back them up manually. Console saves are automatically uploaded to cloud (PS Plus / Xbox Live Gold / Nintendo Switch Online required).
