Important Notes for Gears 5
This section covers crucial warnings, pitfalls, and insider knowledge to save you frustration and regret. Read this before you start playing.
⚠️ Warnings & Pitfalls
- Active Reload Punishment: If you miss the Active Reload (timed tap), your weapon may jam temporarily – avoid spamming reload in combat. Time it carefully.
- Jack's Upgrades Are Permanent (per playthrough): All Components collected for Jack are used to unlock abilities. You cannot respec, so prioritize upgrades that fit your playstyle (e.g., Heal Boost, Flashbang, Shield).
- Campaign Choices Are Irreversible: In Act 2, you must choose between two paths (e.g., help Del or help JD). This affects story scenes and some encounters. You cannot undo this decision in a single playthrough – replay the chapter or start a new game to see the alternative.
- Declassified Missions Are Missable: Each chapter has optional Declassified objectives that often make combat harder but reward bonus Components. If you skip them, you lose the chance to pick up those Components forever (per playthrough).
- Relic Weapons Are Single-Use Per Playthrough: You can find Relic weapons (e.g., Enforcer, Gnasher) in secret locations. They are powerful but break after a limited time. Grab them only when you plan to use them soon.
- Difficulty Spike – Matriarch Boss Fight (Act 2): This boss is significantly harder than regular enemies. Use cover, avoid her charge, and focus fire on her when she reveals weak points. Bring a boltok or longshot for precision damage.
- Optional Side Missions Are Worth It: In Acts 2 and 3, you can explore Skiff stops. These side missions give extra Components, Relics, and lore. Ignoring them means you miss out on upgrades and unique gear.
